🎓WELCOME to Tel Aviv University and its International Community of Researchers🎓

Introduction of the Blog and WA group guidelines

Welcome to the first TAU international Volunteers-managed blog! This blog has been created to give complementary information to the graduated students of TAU and to create a community where we can share thoughts and information. This blog is not affiliated to any of the TAU services or bureaucratic apparatus and it is meant to be an informal tool where people can be updated, alongside the Whatsapp group and the informal word-of-mouth. Each student or post-doc is more than welcome to approach and participate in the creation of this blog, acting as a volunteer (with a little basic commitment) but also as an user, where they can collect any sort of information. All of the content posted on this blog is under the responsibility of the person who wrote it and posted it. UPDATE 06.11.23  Guidelines for the WhatsApp group  1.Respect & Kindness: Treat all members with respect and kindness. Be mindful of your tone and language.  2. Stay On Topic: Keep discussions releva...

I give up... Broshim (because of the war time). How should I pack up from abroad?

In these days of confusion and unclear weather, many of us are stuck in an uncomfortable position on what-to-do in our lives. Luckily, some of us have clear minds, at least regarding this situation, and they decided to say Bye Bye to Israel. At least for now. A relevant group of us lives in Broshim, and they are very concerned about maintaining a rent and an apartment that is relatively expensive, especially with a scholarship that is not that big money (and with big doubts for the future). An appealing possibility is in all people's mind: maybe it is the time to pack up and evacuate the apartment in the dorms. Maybe one comes back later, finding another accommodation, or maybe one does not want to come back at all. Meanwhile, it is wise to save some money and relax with the bills and the rent prices. Thus, we figured out a way to give up the apartment and save your personal stuff if you did not have time to pack up before. 1) the agreements In order to leave the apartment, you nee...

Some updates from SEGEL on the current situation (scholarships, insurance, dorm rents)

Here I report the letter I received from the chief representatives of SEGEL on some of the issues that we are addressing. Notice that SEGEL is also working for employees and personnel of the whole university, which means that they are dealing also with stuff that is more general or not relevant for us, but very important for the welfare and the rights of everybody on campus.  --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear committee, Some interim updates regarding issues that came up at the last committee meeting: 1. Online teaching: Shahar made it clear to the university administration that it is unacceptable for us to send out emails from the rector and vice rector about online teaching without them consulting us. In response, we scheduled a meeting with Sharon, the academic secretary, and Dana, VP of Human Resources, to discuss the matter. We forwarded them a list of conditions under which we would be ready for online teaching during combat only,...

The International office created a WA community

Dear all, we just want to communicate that today the TAU International Office started a new WhatsApp Community for the clarity and the benefit of all of the International students and scholars in the University. What is a WhatsApp Community? Check it out at THIS video. What does the TAU community contain? The community has several branches, each one dedicated to a specific topic to be discussed. The community of " TAU International Research students " contains 3 branches: An announcement group called " International Researchers TAU", where only the admins can forward official notification and information to all of the members, but in a format one-to-one. This means that you can't answer the posts, only react. The " Lowy Admin Research Student Group " where any Research student (M.Sc., PhD and postdoc) can participate in the discussions about general topics that concern the experience on campus. The International office team members will directly int...

An email was sent on the 02.11.23 by Zoe, the TAU international office liaison regarding the updates on the situation.  Here we report her email with some notes we could add because of the word-of-mouth information or the ideas we got. We encourage all of you to add up your questions and reach out to us for any inquiry, by filling this form (a new page opens up). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visa As some of you already know, The Population and Immigration Authority has announced that valid foreign visas (excluding B1 work visas), that were supposed to expire in the next three months have been automatically extended until February 2, 2024 . However, please note the following: This extension does not include the multiple-entry permit.  If you are currently abroad, your visa has  not been extended automatically If you are abroad, and your visa will expire before you return to Israel, you can contact the local Isra...
