Scholarship amounts will increase by at least 5% for the 2023-24 academic year, for all scholarship recipients, including postdoctoral fellows - whose scholarship amounts have not changed over the past several years.
The maximum scholarship amount that research students may receive will be raised from 200% to 220%, or from 250% to 275% with the rector’s approval.
Graduate students studying towards a master’s or doctoral degree will receive a one-time compensation for the current academic year, 2022-23. This compensation will amount to approximately 3% of the yearly scholarship amount, the equivalent of 2/3 of the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) at the beginning of the 2022-23 academic year.
Today as of 2nd May 2023, a representative of Segel (TRFO) announced that the all the PhD students should have received an email about compensation for the scholarships from the university. The amount should be equivalent to an extra 3.5% of your usual scholarship over the course of 1 year.
We then figured out that this compensation was not automatically provided to everyone, so the Segel representative invited us to send an email at gizbar@segel.org.il with your name and unit (school, Faculty) to figure out why in some cases the money did not go through.
Also, they suggested to contact the Scholarship Secretary of the Faculty you belong to for further clarification, in case the answers take their time to come.
Finally, TAUinternational Liason Zoe managed to make some clarifications by contacting the Segel (TRFO) and got back with these info (she sent via email).
Dear Researchers,
The Teaching and Research Faculty Organization sent an email this morning announcing the result of the organization’s negotiations with the University.
Here are the main points:
1.
A compensation grant will be given to
MA/MSc and PhD students calculated as such: 41.6% of the scholarship as it was paid in February, divided by 12, times number of scholarship months (usually 6 or 12).
For example:
An international PhD student receives a 200% monthly scholarship of 5,000 NIS for 12 months.
The calculation will be: 200 X 5,000 X 12 X 0.416 / 12 / 100 = 4,160 NIS
2. If a student has more than one scholarship, the compensation grant will be calculated for each one separately and then summed together as one grant.
3.
The calculation equation is not set in stone;
varied factors might affect the final amount of the grant. For more information on the matter, you may turn to your faculty’s secretariat.
4.
There will be a 5% scholarship raise for MA/MSc and PhD students starting next October.
5. Postdoctoral Fellows will receive a 5% scholarship raise in the next academic year.
Best Regards,
Zoe
