Welcome to the first TAU International Volunteering and Support blog! This blog has been created to give complementary information to the graduated students of TAU and to create a community where we can share thoughts and information. This blog is NOT affiliated or supported by Lowy TAU international school or any of the TAU administrative bodies. This blog is meant to be an informal tool where people can be updated, alongside the Researchers and Scholars in TAU: the peers community , and the PhDs and group and the informal word-of-mouth. Each PhD student or post-doc is more than welcome to approach and participate in the creation of this blog, acting as a volunteer (with a little basic commitment) but also as an user, where they can collect any sort of information. All of the content posted on this blog is under the responsibility of the person who wrote it and posted it. UPDATE 06.11.23 Guidelines for the WhatsApp group 1.Respect & Kindness: Treat all memb...
UPDATE 2024: according to some word of mouth, Discount went back to issue Credit cards. Make sure with your bank assistant!
I report here the information that was given (in 2023) regarding the issue of Credit Cards for the non-Israeli clients.
Hello Everyone,
As I am sure some of you have already heard, Discount Bank has evoked a new protocol where Foreigners can no longer hold a Discount Credit Card.
The implication is that foreigners that are currently holding a Discount Credit card will not be able to use it anymore. This only refers to Discount credit cards, not all credits cards.
You may ask for a debit card: with a debit card every expense is deducted from your bank account right away (not on the 10th of the month) and there is no credit from the bank, you can only spend the amount you have in your account.
We are deeply sorry for the trouble this new policy has caused.

After contacting various Credit Card providers the conclusion is there is no option to obtain a non-bank credit card without an Israeli ID.
As some of you are affected by Discount’s new policy, I recommend you to consider transferring to a different bank. Hapoalim bank and Leumi bank do provide credit cards to foreigners.

We wanted you to know that we are here to support you.

Additionally, I recently received an automatic notification from the bank, explaining why the foreign credit card won't be given or valid any longer.
