Welcome to the first TAU international Volunteers-managed blog! This blog has been created to give complementary information to the graduated students of TAU and to create a community where we can share thoughts and information. This blog is not affiliated to any of the TAU services or bureaucratic apparatus and it is meant to be an informal tool where people can be updated, alongside the Whatsapp group and the informal word-of-mouth. Each student or post-doc is more than welcome to approach and participate in the creation of this blog, acting as a volunteer (with a little basic commitment) but also as an user, where they can collect any sort of information. All of the content posted on this blog is under the responsibility of the person who wrote it and posted it. Dear students,
We want to address two significant matters regarding the weather and the earthquake this past evening.
All the guidelines listed below, are taken from the Home Front Command website. https://www.oref.org.il/en
1.Weather:
In the coming days, rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected throughout the country. To avoid life-threatening situations, it is important to know the guidelines and safety protocols:
• Make sure the heating devices are working safely, keep them away from flammable materials and turn them off when you leave the room.
•Remove all items from balconies and windows, to avoid them falling over people beneath you.
• Stay away from detached power lines and fallen trees.
• Do not enter flooded areas.
• During heavy rainfall, please do not go down to an underground place such as an underground parking lot, basement or shelter.
2. Earthquake:
An earthquake occurred this night at a magnitude of 7.7 in Turkey.
Due to this, we are reminding you of the guidelines for proper behavior during an earthquake and wish to make you aware that an earthquake alert can be received in the Home Front Command app and through the sirens.
When you receive an earthquake alert or when you notice signs of an earthquake, follow these guidelines:
Those staying indoors - if possible, go out into the open. If it is not possible to leave the building within a few seconds, enter the protected room and leave the door and windows open, or exit the stairwell and continue down towards the exit of the building. Only if this is not possible, sit in an inner corner of the room or under heavy furniture and protect your head with your hands.
Those staying outdoors - stay in the open away from buildings, trees, power cables and items that could fall and endanger you.
Passengers in a vehicle – Stop the vehicle on the side of the road and wait inside until the earthquake stops. Avoid stopping under a bridge or at an interchange.
Those near the beach - Stay at least one kilometer away from the beach for fear of a tsunami coming and flooding the beach. If it is not possible to leave the beach area, go up to the fourth floor or higher of a nearby building.
We attached the university's guidelines for earthquakes.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us for any question you have. We are here for any concern and wish to provide our assistance
Best,
The TAU Madrichim
